Below you will find our latest news and information about some of our recent projects.

March 2024

After more than a year of repairs and restoration, the Grade II listed Jubilee Bridge in Lowestoft opened to pedestrians at the end of February. The footbridge, which spans ‘The Ravine’ and links Belle Vue Park with North Parade, was built in 1897 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Following a structural survey which identified a number of safety issues the bridge was forced to close in 2020 . Hyams have provided quantity surveying and contract administration services on behalf of East Suffolk Council.

Construction of a new veterinary surgery in Felixstowe for Ryder Davies and Partners was completed at the end of February and is now open and in full use. The state of the art building provides a surgical suite, consulting and diagnosis rooms, high tech imaging facilities, dental theatre and on site laboratory. Designed by Hollins Architects and built by O Seaman and Son Ltd, Hyams provided quantity surveying services.

An update on some of our projects completed this year:

The Castle Community Rooms in Framlingham were handed over early in the year and are now in full and busy use. The project was awarded first place in the Design category of East Suffolk Council’s ‘Quality of Place Awards’ and we were pleased to attend the awards ceremony held at the Castle Community Rooms at the end of November. The project is also a 2024 Regional Finalist in the 2024 Civic Trust Awards.

East Suffolk Council’s ‘Seashore Village’ including activity park area was completed and handed over recently. The scheme forms part of a wider project to regenerate an area of land between Sea Road and the Promenade in Felixstowe. The site has been relandscaped with ramp access, fully accessible public toilets, 27 traditional style timber beach huts together with ‘pod-style’ beach chalets available to hire inside an adaptable building.

Phase 2 of Orwell Homes Ltd’s housing Scheme at Parham comprising nine Affordable and Shared Ownership properties have been completed and are fully occupied.

In November we were pleased to attend LABC East Anglia’s awards ceremony to see Handford Homes Ltd’s scheme in Grimwade Street, Ipswich receive the award ‘Best Small Housing Development’ winner 2023. (See April 2022 News below).

In April Handford Homes have handed over sixteen new flats in Grimwade Street, Ipswich to Ipswich Borough Council. This development comprises a mix of one, two and three bedroom flats – four of which are disabled accessible – arranged in two blocks with shared amenity space, car parking, bins and cycle storage.
